DODGEfort sport

rules and method

1. DodgeFort is played with only one ball, between two teams.

2. There are 3 outer players and at least 1 inner player in each team. The outer players are positioned outside the half-fields in such a way that inner players are surrounded by the opponents from 4 sides – as “under siege”.

3. Aim of the game is to win points by hitting the inner opponents with the ball. 1 point is awarded if at least one of the opponents is hit. Only inner players are targets. Any part of the body hit – counts.

4. Only straight hits count – so if the ball bounces off the ground and then hits a player, no points awarded. Game continues.

5. If the ball bounces of a player and a teammate catches the ball, that is a save, no points. Game continues.

6. Inner players can dodge, pass, hit or catch the ball. When ball caught, no points are awarded, the game continues.

7. When a point is won, the team that lost the point gets possession of the ball, and the inner player that got hit swaps places with one of their outer players. This can be done in a rotational manner, so every player gets a chance to play from each position.

8. There is no crossing lines – all players only move within their zone. Players can’t touch the ball if it’s not within their zone. When the ball is stopped inside a field it belongs to those inner players. When the ball is stopped outside of a field it belongs to the outer players on that side of the field.

9. When the ball is stopped on the line it belongs to the inner players.

10. Players can use any part of their body to control the ball, but they can only use their hands when passing the ball to their team-mates or hitting the opponents.

11. Players have to play fast and get rid of the ball within 5 seconds of possession – either to throw at the opponent or to pass the ball across the field to another player.

12. If children and adults are playing together, adults are not allowed to hit children with the ball. They can only pass the ball.

13. Game is finished when one of the teams reaches the score of 15. There has to be 2 points difference.

14. A match is finished when at least 2 games have been won by a team.

rules variations

1. Instead of counting points game can be played including ‘elimination’ of players.

2. When an inner player is hit, he or she goes out to become outer player, and this continues until all inner players of one team are ‘eliminated’. Then the 3 original outer players come inside and the game continues until one of team has all players out of the field.

3. The winning team is the one that has at least one player left inside their field after all of the opponents are out of their field.

4. The winning score can be set at another number rather than 15.

5. The game can be played on time. The team that has the highest score or the most number of inner players at the end of set time – wins.
